‘Pretty Little Liars’ Cancelled – No Season 8

A seventh season of a mystery-thriller, drama series “Pretty Little Liars” kicked off on June 21, 2016, and its debut has garnered 1.43 million viewers. Certainly, numerous fans of the drama series want to figure out, should we expect “Pretty Little Liars” Season 8 on Freeform or no, and when its release date. Yet in November 2014, Lucy Hale has confirmed that the eighth season of the mystery-thriller would be its last. However, already in August 2015, series executive producer I. Marlene King hinted that the renewal is quite possible. However, he did not rule out that it could be a television film. Unfortunately, on August 29, 2016, it was announced that Freeform has decided to cancel “Pretty Little Liars.” Thus the series will be ending with Season 7 in 2017.

First of all, it’s worth noting that the seventh season of the teen drama has been praised by viewers, in general. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the seventh series of the drama has an average score of 4.9 out of 5 and a 100% approval rating based on 20 user ratings. At the same time, according to IMDB, “Pretty Little Liars” keeps quite a favorable score of 7.7 out of 10 based on over 114,200 user votes, 150 reviews from viewers, and 35 reviews from critics.
However, the most valuable indicator is — viewership. And, unfortunately, its figures don’t seem to us impressive, however, they remain quite steady. The premiere of Season 7 has drawn 1.43 million viewers, while a sophomore episode has attracted 1.24 million viewers. For comparison, the premiere of Season 6 has garnered 2.38 million viewers. Actually, it’s quite a usual trend when the audience is decreasing from season to season. However, this is the main indicator that affect on the decision on renewal or cancellation of any TV show. Most likely, Freeform’s leadership (or, more precisely, the Disney–ABC Television Group) looks at the ratings and counts up viewers in order to make their final decision. If the audience will drop, they might cancel the series. However, if the audience might increase in the middle of the season and the viewership will reach at least 1.8-2.0 million viewers per episode, “Pretty Little Liars” would be renewed for an eighth season.
