The Late Late Show's James Corden will host the award ceremony. “Thanks to Carpool Karaoke, we’ve all been on some incredible rides with James, and... couldn’t be more excited to welcome his passion and enthusiasm for music, both as an entertainer and a fan, to the Grammy stage on February 12,” said Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy which organises the annual music awards.

“He’s got big shoes to fill after the magnificent run we had with LL Cool J, but James Corden is a commanding, dynamic showman who, we believe, is perfect to host the Grammy Awards.”

Beyoncé leads the pack with nine nominations, bringing her all-time total to 62, and making her the most nominated woman in the award's history. The 35-year-old is now also the first artist to earn nominations in the pop, rock, R&B and rap categories in the same year.

Her main rival is Adele, who is competing against Beyoncé in the best album, best song and best record categories, while David Bowiehas received four posthumous nominations. Other contenders include Rihanna, Ed Sheeran and Chance the Rapper.

Who won't be appearing?

A few faces will be notably absent from the ceremony: Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Drake will all be skipping the award show, despite holding nominations.

For Drake, it was simply a scheduling issue – the Hotline Bling rapper has a gig in Manchester on the same night. But West and Bieber have both snubbed the show on principle.

West had previously stated that he would boycott the ceremony if Frank Ocean's album Blonde was not nominated. "I'll tell you this right now, if his album is not nominated in no categories, I'm not showing up to the Grammys," West said onstage in October, during a concert in Oakland, California. "As artists, we've got to come together to fight the bulls---."

Ocean's album didn't get a place on the shortlist, but his label reportedly failed to submit it for consideration before the September deadline, which suggests he wasn't too interested in winning a Grammy anyway.

However, a spokesman for West recently told US magazine that the rapper will be missing the ceremony for personal reasons, following a difficult few months in which the rapper cancelled his tour dates, and was admitted to hospital for exhaustion. "He is taking some personal time at the top of this year to just chill and decompress," the source said.

Bieber, meanwhile, has chosen to skip the show because he "doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers," TMZ reports.
